ROYAL INSTITUTION OF GREAT BRITAIN. (Incorporated 20th January 1800.) Azure, the sun in splendour or, in base the ocean proper, on a canton argent an escutcheon gules charged with a lion passant guardant of the second. Crest — Out of a mural crown or, an oak fructed proper. Supporters — (Dexter) a figure representing Minerva habited in a robe flowing to the feet argent, supervested with a tunic purpure, zoned or, bearing on her breast a gorget charged with Medusa's head of the last, and on her head a helmet surmounted by an owl gold, the plume argent, in her dexter hand a spear erect proper ; (sinister) a figure representing Vesta habited in a flowing robe argent, banded from the right shoulder under the left breast, the band or, her head encircled by a golden fillet, her veil thrown back, and her exterior hand holding a torch illumined proper. Motto — " Illustrans commoda vitse."
