Bastard son of paladin Andre d'Ormonde, Aimery was appointed lord of the castle of La Roche Fleury by his father. A well-rounded gentleman and a clever statesman and politician, he was tributed by the surname of "le Grand Batard" to distinguish him from the way less admired "Petit Batard de Lafrance", Geoffroy d'Outremer.
