34th President of the United States (1953-1961) and Supreme Allied Commander during World War II, Dwight D. Eisenhower adopted the above arms in 1950 when he was admitted to the Order of the Elephant, Denmark's greatest honor. The anvil is a canting element referring to the German name "Eisenhauer" which means a hewer of iron. The helmet and 5 starts represents Eisenhower's profession of arms and his rank and General of the Army (5-star General). Below the shield is the collar of a knight of the Order of the Elephant.
